Test the Scene

This tutorial looks at how to test your Unity 6+ scene in your Meta Quest headset...

Testing the scene early in your device makes sure that you don't waste any time creating an experience only for it not to work.

Requirements

  • Unity 6+ URP Project.

  • Meta XR Packages installed.

  • The Meta Building Blocks 'Camera Rig' asset in Scene

  • Any other Building Block assets you would like to test.

Create a Meta Account

  • You will need to make your Meta account a Developer account at the Meta Developers website.

  • Login or sign up for a free Meta account.

The Meta Horizon app

  • On your phone, install the 'Meta Horizon' app.

  • Login with your Meta account.

  • Pair your Quest headset with your phone if you haven't already.

  • Select the 'Menu' Icon (next to the Search bar).

  • Go down to 'Devices' and select your headset.

  • Select 'Headset settings' at the bottom of the options.

    • Make sure your headset is on, otherwise this option is greyed out.

  • Go to 'Developer Mode', and turn 'Developer Mode' on.

Connecting the Headset

  • Connect your headset with a USB-C Cable (supporting USB-C 3.0 or higher).

    • Select the 'Allow Device' popup in the headset.

  • You should be able to see your headset in the 'File / Build Profiles' window under the 'Platform Settings / Run Device' pulldown.

Testing your Experience

  • Open the 'Build Profiles' window (if it isn't already).

  • Select 'Build & Run' at the bottom of the 'Build Profiles' window.

  • Enter the filename for your build, and select 'Save'.

  • Test the experience!

Depending on the assets you added from the 'Building Blocks' menu you can do things such as move around through to picking up assets or have sections of the experience use the passthrough effect.

You now have a basic scene to start setting up your experience!
